Loans and Returns
You must be registered in the library system before you can borrow or request books. For LDUC students, this happens automatically when the semester fee is paid. Others who want to use the library must bring identification and register in person during the library's staffed hours.
In the Oria search engine, you can search for books and other documents to see if the material is available in the library. Visit Oria here.
Books are borrowed and returned at the library's self-service machine. If you are unable to visit LDUC, books can also be returned in the return box located outside the main entrance.
Please feel free to contact us at the library at bibliotek@ldh.no if you have any questions regarding borrowing, requesting, and renewing library material.
Borrowing rules
Students and staff at LDUC are automatically registered as borrowers at the library. You are personally responsible for all loans registered on your account, and you have to pay the replacement fee if any material is lost or damaged. It is also your responsibility to make sure that your personal and contact information is up to date.
Loan periods
Standard loan: All of the library's standard loan books have a two-week loan period. These books are located on the open shelves in the library and have white spine labels. Loans can be renewed in Oria if there is no waiting list.
One-day loan: We have several copies of curriculum books available for one-day loans, marked with yellow spine labels. These must be returned by 08:45 on the first working day after the loan date and cannot be renewed. One-day loan books can only be borrowed by students and staff at Lovisenberg Diaconal University College, Oslo New University College, and Lovisenberg Diaconal Hospital.
Interlibrary loan: Loans from other libraries have a four-week loan period. These books can be renewed in Oria.
Books with a red spine label are for staff loan only, but students can use them in the library. The same applies for printed journals.
Syllabus books are reserved for students and staff at Lovisenberg Diaconal University College, Lovisenberg Diaconal Hospital, and Oslo New University College. If you do not belong to one of these groups, we recommend that you call in advance to confirm that the books you are interested in are available.
You are responsible for renewing loans or returning books within the due date.
Overdue notices and fees
You will receive a reminder by e-mail and SMS three days before the due date. A new reminder is sent on the due date. The next notice is a claim for compensation. If the loan is still not returned, the book is considered lost, and you lose your borrowing rights.
You will receive a claim for the value of the book, a minimum of NOK 500. Students and external users also receive a processing fee of NOK 100 per lost loan.
The claim is deleted if you return the book, but the processing fee must be paid regardless.
If you are unfortunate enough to lose or damage something you have borrowed, the material must be replaced. You can buy a new copy of what is lost/damaged and give this to the library, or you can pay the claim for compensation. Contact the library, and we will find a solution together.
Renewing loans
You can renew your loans yourself in Oria. Visit Oria here, log in to My Account, find “My Loans”, and select "Renew All".
Students and staff at LDUC should select affiliation Lovisenberg Diaconal University College and log in with Feide.
Everybody else can log in with a username (loan number) and password.
The following types of loans cannot be renewed:
- Books with a waiting list
- Day loans
If you’re having trouble renewing your loans, you can contact the library at bibliotek@ldh.no.
Requesting books and articles
You can request books and articles in Oria. Go to Oria here, search for the title, log in with Feide or username/password, and select "Request". When the document you have requested is ready for pickup, you will be notified by SMS and e-mail.
Books
Reserved books are located on the white pick-up shelf to the left of the self-service machine in the library. Find the correct title and make sure the pick-up number matches the one you have received. Remember to borrow the book at the self-service machine. Books on the pick-up shelf should only be picked up by the person who requested them and must be picked up within a week.
Articles
We can request copies of articles we don’t have access to for LDUC’s staff, master's students, continuing education students, and for students writing their bachelor's thesis. Students at other educational institutions and external borrowers cannot request materials through the LDUC library, but must contact their local library.
Article copies are placed in envelopes on the pickup shelf and are labelled with your student number/loan number.
